Emily Greene = ♥.

Emily Greene is a beautiful soul with a raw, mesmerizing voice; reminiscent of a young Gwen Stefani, Alison Sudol (A Fine Frenzy), Adele, and the softer side of Florence + the Machine. She effortlessly displayed her vocal range while playing the keys along side a full band at The Living Room on January 15th. The packed house was completely captivated by her exceptional lyrics, so personal that it felt as if we were privy to reading her diary. Emily truly let the audience into her world and took us all for a little ride, striking different emotional chords with every tune she played. She joked around with the crowd throughout the performance and was the most gracious of hosts making sure everyone was enjoying themselves, had a drink in their hands and were all good and “well-sexed.” Yep. Awesome.
Emily’s self-released EP “Is This What You Had In Mind?” is filled with soul-baring lyrics delivered from a sweet but powerful voice and backed by soft, folky-pop sounds. Emily Greene delivers an honest performance that truly makes you believe you just experienced the words she expresses. And I mean, any artist that ends their set with an acapella version of “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes” fully has my vote.

Brittle Bones.
And we danced in the dark on the stairs
Like the people had pushed us out the room
And we kissed on the crowded stairs
Like we didn't know anyone was there

That's How it Felt.
This time of year I am super thankful. Thankful for my friends, thankful for music, thankful for my musical friends...
This post is dedicated to one friend in particular, my one and only Partner in Crime for bringing Apollo Run into my life!
Two years ago, Sarah told me to meet her at The Bitter End to see this guy she liked and to watch his band perform. The singer in the band was so much more than that - he was a F&%$ING ROCKSTAR. He went back and forth from the keys to the trumpet to dancing around the stage and beyond... He was ridiculously awesome and we were all hypnotized.
Fast forward to December 2010 and Sarah and John are madly in love, Sarah and Mindee are serious troublemakers and Apollo Run is filling up venues where standing room only is no longer an option. John, Graham and Jeff are phenomenally gifted musicians who never fail to surprise and delight every new friend I bring to their shows. These guys were born to perform and their live show is a MUST SEE if you ever get the opportunity. If you don't believe me, take a look for yourself:

Having an 'A Fine Frenzy' Frenzy...
You know when you stumble back on an old favorite and then from that point on, you play them over and over throughout the next week?

This is happening to me, at this very moment. I've always loved Alison Sudol and have always enjoyed listening to A Fine Frenzy but ever since turning on Pandora and plugging in 'Mumford & Sons,' I have a renewed love for all these old favorites and simply can't stop listening to them...
Up First: A Fine Frenzy. Become smitten. ♥(Again).

Duet.
This past Winter I went with some girlfriends to see a mutual friend's band perform. Right after their set was over, Duet came on stage to start their show. I had no idea what I was in for... they combine percussion, keys and woodwinds to recreate your favorite dance songs as well as awesome originals. Duet was on stage for three hours playing songs that brought everyone to a different place and back again. My friends and I literally danced for the entire three hours. The venue was packed and nobody wanted the band's set to end. It was such an amazingly magical night that happened so organically and so spontaneously and it was genuinely the best concert experience I have had in a long time. I've been to many, many concerts since then, but none of them have had the effect that this little-known Brooklyn-based trio had on the crowd at N. 4th Bar that cold night in February. On the band's MySpace page, they state that they "Sound like: The best night of your life..." and they did.
Duet is performing at Rockwood Music Hall's Stage 2 tomorrow night (Saturday, September 4th)! GO!!! Become smitten (times ten). ♥

Daniel Murtagh.
I'm so sorry I've been MIA this week. I've been working long hours on the set of 'Memoir...'
You know I love a good photo! ;)
Today I stumbled across this amazing photo that I simply could not take my eyes off of...

'Daniel Murtagh has been a portrait photographer since 1995. Upon graduation from Pratt Institute he moved to New Mexico and later to San Francisco, where he spent six years defining a style of work that continues to evolve. In 2000 he returned to New York. He has shot for magazines such as Soma, San Francisco, Health, Splash, and Hippocrates; his work has also appeared in Men's Health, Elle, Shots, and American Photographer, as well as on over 30 book covers. Photo Icon magazine's first issue ran a feature story about his work (here). He has made six short films, one of which, "The Last Judgement," will show at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, Russia, in late 2009. Daniel's music compositions, including selections from his score for the film "Virginiana," can be heard on his MySpace music page (here). He is working on his first book of photographs, "Mirror."'
